Post Pay attention!
You may notice (as I have) that you don't always get everything out of a comic book or series the first time you read it. Or even the second, third, fourth or fifth time, if the joke or reference is very subtle. Find anything with nuance in your books that you didn't notice before? I was flipping through Transmetropolitan last night, when I got to the issue with the Presidential election party, and there in the middle of the story is a big fat panel with comic book versions of the creators in attendance. Somehow I finally managed to recognize them from the drawings of them at the end of the series. In the same vein, I find that I often like a great variety of books based on writing or art, and only after later do I realize that there's a common thread, like Humberto Ramos' pencils (X Nation 2099/DV8) or Warren Ellis' writing (Transmetropolitan/DV8 again). I ran into the same thing when I started watching Shin Chan on adultswim.com, and found Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer in the credits as "Punch Up Writers".

I was reading Next Wave, and got to the seventh comic.

I was skimming the Q&A at the beginning, when I noticed that it was different from the last one I'd read, at the beginning of #2.

I went back through all of them to see what I'd missed. And then re-read the Director's cut of #1, looking for everything mentioned by Ellis in the production notes.

I think I found everything now. Maybe.

If you ever decide to read the Invisibles, it's packed with stuff you absolutely will not catch the first time around. There are just too many small cultural references to count. In fact, I think people have written entire books trying to outline them, panel by panel.

It's another Vertigo title. Written by Grant Morrison, who is right next to Warren Ellis as one of my all-time favorite comic book authors.

Recognize him?

This was published back in March of 1988 by Fantagraphics.

Post This makes more sense.
These humans are characters from the comic book Akiko. The creators of Akiko and Usagi Yojimbo were both a part of Triology Tour, which my friend Kim and I both went to see.

The creator of Akiko was a real dick. Usagi's creator Stan Sakai was awesome, as always.

This page is from 1999.

This is from House of M #8. Layla Miller got drunk and woke up next to Spooky.
